1st Leg of the Final is done!
By: Albert | May 30th, 2008
Last night the 1st leg was played in Estadio Azul, and the home team Cruz Azul came out dominating the entire 1st half. They controlled the rhythm and had the ball on the Santos side of the field the majority of the time. Santos defenders were yelling at each other, Oswaldo Sanchez was yelling at his defensive line. Cruz Azul scored the first goal after some good passing in the area, then a cross that went to the head of Nicolas Vigneri and into the goal past Oswaldo and a defender on the goal line.
Cruz Azul played well even the start of the 2nd half, but Santos came back with more control and more opportunities.
The Santos goal would fall in the 2nd half after a good center pass from Benitez, to a running on Fernando Arce who struck the ball with power and low, and left Yosgar Gutierrez standing as he watched the ball go past him. Nothing he could do. The 2nd was a good run by Benitez on the left side, a cut back and had space to make a hard shot past Gutierrez.
In the end it was a good showing by Cruz Azul, but Santos took advantage and capitalized on the opportunities they had. Now it will be complicated the return leg in La Comarca Lagunera.

Don’t forget to mention our new D.T. might be… Willie Nelson, also known as “It”.
