A look back at Jornada 13
By: Chris | April 2nd, 2007Sorry it took so long folks. I’ve been under the weather this weekend and had my online time consumed by the Cuauhtemoc Blanco to Chicago Fire deal.
I’m not going to run down each individual game, so I’ll pick a few talking points here.
Houston, We Hope You Were Watching
The scoreline that sticks out the most is the 5-0 plastering Pachuca put on Veracruz on Saturday. If I was a Veracruz fan, I would have rioted after the game. The Red Sharks were just outclassed, pure and simple. Many props go out to Christian Gimenez who didn’t celebrate after either of his 2 goals because of his former days by the Gulf of Mexico.
If I was Dominic Kinnear, I’d be shaking in my boots right now. It looks like Pachuca is capable of turning around the 0-2 deficit in Thursday’s return leg in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Dear, oh dear Toluca
Two wins, eight draws and one loss coming in. That’s what Toluca was staring at coming into Sunday’s matinee against Atlante. Building a 2-0 lead early in the second half at home, things looked good for the Red Devils. But then the wheels fell off and now Toluca’s playoff options took a big hit. Atlante scored 4 goals in the last 35 minutes to take the victory and solidify their spot in the top 8.
You’re Going To Miss Me
With his name all over the news for his imminent transfer, Cuauhtemoc Blanco came out and showed América fans what they’ll be missing. He set up both goals in the Águilas’ 2-0 win at home to Querétaro to move them up to 2nd place while burying the Gallos Blancos in the relegation battle.
A Derby That (Surprisingly) Lived Up To The Hype
I told you it would be the game to watch, and it was. The Monterrey derby turned out to be a classic with Tigres and Monterrey sharing the points after a brilliant 3-3 draw.
This game had it all. Two penalties for Tigres, Monterrey hitting back both times afterwards to reclaim the lead until unsung and barely-used Juan Pablo Garcia scored a great goal to seal the draw. The point will serve Tigres well as they sit in 7th place, with 3 teams just a point behind.

I can’t believe how Toluca was leading by 2 goals and then they just give up 4 goals in the 2nd half.
btw. did you see Sanchez miss that clear goal opportunity in the 1st half. My grandma could have made that!

Pumas U.N.A.M. disapointing again with a draw in the last few minutes. second time in a row!

I missed the Sanchez miss. I guess I turned away when that happened.
And Pumas were unlucky, from what I’ve read about their game, Colotto committed an egregious foul to be able to head the last goal in.

Believe it or not another tie from Pumas. Pumas actually winning 2 consecutive games isn’t going to happen anytime soon. The team just looks dead they need some new players to refresh the team, and stop depending on the ones they have.
