Cruz-ing Through Veracruz

By: Darius | October 23rd, 2006

Veracruz SignCruz Azul sank the Red Sharks at their own Pirates Stadium 2-0 on Saturday to go atop the Group A standings.

Luis Orozco put Cruz Azul ahead 1-0 in the 45th minute with a diving header off of a cross from César Delgado. The goal was Orozco’s first in the big leagues.

Sharp-shooting striker Miguel Sabah climbed off the bench to score in the 57th minute. The man from Cancún took a through pass into the penalty area, spun past two defenders and lobbed the ball over Veracruz goalie Fabián Villaseñor and into the net. The goal was Sabah’s ninth of the year.

“La Máquina” have now won three in a row and are tied with Atlas for first place in Group A.
