Da Hell Does He Know Anyway

By: Darius | October 24th, 2006

devilsToluca will look to stir up a little mischief Wednesday night against San Lorenzo in the first game of a two-leg Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals clash.

With a name like “The Red Devils,” you’d expect the boys to come to town looking to raise hell. Not so, according to coach Américo Gallego.

It would be great if we can tie 2-2; that way we’ll have away goals in the bag for the return match.”

Hmm…I know SOMEONE’S been discussing strategy with coach Frank Vercauteren!

“El Tolo” isn’t exactly shooting for the stars with his prediction. Either he’s being super-pragmatic about travelling to San Lorenzo and sees the game for what it is (a difficult away game against an Argentine side desperate to prove their worth) and doesn’t want to embarrass himself by eating crow later, or he’s the type of coach that prefers to do his talking after the match.

Toluca is coming off of a 1-0 win this past Sunday over Santos Laguna, while San Lorenzo stumbled to a 2-1 defeat against New Chicago in the Argentine league Friday night.

My money’s on Toluca to spring a surprise on San Lorenzo and come away with the W.
