FMF Meeting
By: mirna | August 27th, 2007
This past Friday, the FMF met with Hugo Sanchez to hear his report on the state of the national team and what happened at Gold Cup and Copa America. The result? Well, the club owners and the rest of the group were pretty happy with what they heard from Hugo. To the point that even Jorge Vergara was all smiles while talking to the press after the meeting. He even praised Hugo which was interesting after all of the negative comments he made weeks ago. But I guess everyone is entitled to change their mind and this was Vergara’s time.
One good outcome of this meeting was the ethics code adopted by the federation which will hopefully prevent player abandoning the national team during any tournament. Personally, I wasn’t too happy about Marquez, Pardo, Osorio and Salcido missing Copa America. According to Hugo, it was a decision they made together but I still have my doubts. If you are called up to the national team, honor it. If not, then don’t ask to be called up later. This is a sore point for me but I hope that this ethics code will help.
This coming Friday, Hugo will announce the team that will play against Panama in Puebla and Brazil in Boston. We’ll see what players from the league are called up. Hugo did mention that he was calling about 5 European based players.
