Guadalajara, Pachuca, 2nd Linesman Draw at Jalisco
By: John | April 19th, 2007
In case you missed it, Guadalajara and Pachuca played to a dazzling 2-2 draw yesterday in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup final. Unfortunately, it was a linesman’s erroneous offisde decision that overshadowed some impressive play from both sides.
Omar Bravo continued his torrid scoring pace in the CCC, notching a brace that took his overall tally to 9 in the competition. Bravo has also scored 9 goals in the current clausura, begging the question “where are the goals cuando te pones la verde, Omar?” The man of the match for chivas, though, was Adolfo Bautista. His passing was tremendous all night. When this guy has his head on straight, he is a very dangerous offensive player. Ironically, it was his defensive play that set up Omar’s first goal. He stripped Cristian Jimenez after a corner kick and lasered a 35 yard pass to Bravo, who took the ball in from the midfield stripe to the top of the 18, where he deflty pushed the ball by Miguel Calero.
Both teams had plenty of chances to score, but it was Pachuca who was ultimately robbed of the winner when the linesman, Hector Delgadillo incorrectly adjudged that Luis Landin was offside as he broke clear and got past goal keeper Luis Michel for what would have been an easy tap-in.
Nevertheless, both teams are still alive to win the CCC, earn a trip to Japan, and hopefully not get blown off the pitch like America was by Barcelona last December. The return leg is in Pachuca (la bella airosa) at the Estadio Hidalgo, one of Mexico’s nicest stadia, next Wednesday.

I couldn’t believe the two offside calls at the end. They were both shockingly bad. Chivas were very lucky.
