Guess Who’s Back!
By: Darius | December 27th, 2006
Back again. Header extradanaire Jared Borgetti will return to Mexico for the 2007 Clausura after signing a one-year deal with Cruz Azul.
The gangly striker activated his “can’t adjust to life in Saudi Arabia” clause this past week after spending the second half of 2006 with Al-Ittihad. Prior to that, “The Desert Fox” played in England with the Bolton Wanderers. He was the first-ever Mexican to play in the FA Premier League.
Borgetti sees his jump overseas as a leap forward, not backwards. “If I come back it’s because I want to be in Mexico. I am happy,” he told Sporting Life. “Obviously, the most important thing (right now) is to fight for a title, win the Interliga and then the Copa Libertadores, but the Interliga is the first obstacle.”
Borgetti participated in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has scored a national-record 38 times in 77 professional caps. He’s fourth all-time in goals scored in the Mexican League with 226.
