Mexico v. Ecuador - Hilary Duff to the rescue!
By: Chris | March 29th, 2007I’m thinking that somebody told Ecuador that their games against Mexico and the United States started a little later than the announced kickoff time.
In both matches, the Ecuadoreans gave up a goal in the first minute, with Pumas’ Paco Palencia doing the honors on Wednesday night in Oakland.
But the South Americans found their stride and started dominating after that, having a few good chances before finally breaking through in the 43rd minute with a Carlos Tenorio goal.
Ecuador then shocked the crowd by taking the lead in the 56th minute through Geovanni Espinoza in the 56th minute.
After that, Miss Duff’s magical powers took over as Mexico coach Hugo Sanchez reminded his team to “Wake Up.”
Once Rafa Marquez tied the game in the 73rd minute on a splendid free kick, it was all over from there.
Chivas teammates Omar Bravo and Bofo Bautista each took turns providing each other with perfect setups, with Bravo scoring in the 84th minute and Bofo in the 87th.
I’m not going to say much, but as a goalkeeper, I’ve got a small problem with the last two Mexico goals. If the Ecuadorean keeper gets to the low cross right in front of him, Bravo isn’t left unmarked to tap in from 3 feet out.
And on Bofo’s goal: Nice effort. Kind of half-heartedly throwing your hands at it.
But that doesn’t matter now. Two wins against teams that Mexico will see this summer at Copa America. And from the looks of it, it seems that Ecuador will be the team with the best chance at displacing Mexico from advancing alongside Brazil from their group.

Well if Ecuador had won this or the US match they wouldn’t get invited back now would they? …Okay, Mexico probably would play them again, but there’s no way the US would.
