Pachuca, Puebla grab early advantages

By: Chris | May 26th, 2007

A well-rested Pachuca came close to sewing up the Clausura championship, as they won 2-1 Friday night in the Azteca against América.

Two second-half goals from Juan Carlos Cacho put the Tuzos ahead 2-0 before a late penalty from Cuauhtémoc Blanco left the Águilas with a chance in Sunday’s return leg.

Pachuca had not played in over a week after the second leg of their semifinal tie against Cruz Azul was cancelled. América, on the other hand, was coming off their elimination in the Copa Libertadores, a 2-1 loss in Brasil in which their roster was primarily composed of first-team reserves.

Down in the final for promotion, Puebla tied Dorados 1-1 in Culiacán in the first leg, leaving the Camoteros with a small advantage as they head back home for tonight’s return leg in the Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
