Pachuca: SuperLiga Champions
By: mirna | August 29th, 2007
After an emotional and intense game, overtime, penalty kicks and more penalty kicks, Pachuca became the first champion of the SuperLiga. With Abel Xavier missing his penalty kick in a sudden death situation, the Tuzos were able to claim victory and a nice $1 million dollar prize.
That was a tough game for me to watch, I am a Galaxy fan as much as a Mexican soccer fan but I must admit that my heart was with the Galaxy tonight and they should be very proud of how they played. They showed heart and intensity, which they hadn’t shown in many games lately.
Pachuca also fought hard and deserved to win as well. Both teams offered fans a great final. The only drawback was the lack of TV availability (only Telefutura had it live and their distribution is limited) and the fact that only a percentage of the seats were available due to the Galaxy’s relationship with Cal State Dominguez Hills. But all in all, this game was a gem.
Congratulations Pachuca!

It would be brilliant if you did an entry every month or so on Mexicans playing abroad in Europe! Like a sort of ‘How are they doing?’ sort of thing.
Andrés Guardado at Depor, Dos Santos & Marquez at Barcelona, Ricardo Osorio at Stuttgart, Arsenal’s Carlos Vela, come to mind for me at the moment.

Great idea. Now that there are a few Mexican players in Europe, keepin tabs on them makes a lot of sense. I will keep everyone posted on how they do this season…hopefully, we’ll have good news out of them all.
