Recap: México - Paraguay friendly
By: Chris | March 27th, 2007
Sunday saw more history being written in Monterrey as México defeated Paraguay 2-1 in a friendly match.
Within 10 seconds of entering the game, El Tri’s all-time leading scorer Jared Borgetti scored off a header to put México ahead in the 78th minute.
Just four minutes later, Gonzalo Piñeda nearly scored a gol olÃmpico as his corner glanced off the near post finding an unmarked Borgetti who merely had to push the ball into the net.
Roque Santa Cruz pulled one back for the Paraguayans in stoppage time.
But the story of the day was Borgetti, who now has 40 goals in just 79 caps for México. Despite already announcing his intentions to retire from the national team after this year’s Gold Cup, Jared came on to save the day in the battle between two teams who participated in last year’s World Cup.
Borgetti has said that he’d like to retire from El Tri in order to give youngsters such as Carlos Vela and others a chance to work themselves into Hugo Sánchez’s side.
But with Sunday’s showing, should Jared go through with his retirement later this year? Or will México lean on him for the crucial goals in World Cup qualifying?

If Borgetti is still on form and he still wants to play than he has to be played. The young guys will get their chance and when they are better than him they should start.
