The Shadow

By: Darius | November 13th, 2006

La sombraThere’s a shadow hanging over America’s Eagles, and I’m not talking about this debacle. Ecuadorian defender Geovanny Espinoza seems set to suit up for Las Aguilas next season.

“La Sombra” (the shadow, as he’s affectionately called) burst onto the global scene this past summer with some excellent defensive work during the World Cup. He’s tall (listed at 6′1″), strong and unbeatable in the air. Sure, his clearing skills could use a little fine-tuning, but if you saw this guy play two or three years ago, you wouldn’t believe it’s the same person.

At 29, Espinoza is primed for a career move, and America seems to be a perfect fit.
