Would the Champions League stand for this?

By: Chris | May 6th, 2007

Sure, the Copa Libertadores ISN’T the Champions League. But it is still the 2nd biggest club tournament in the world, so you’d think that we wouldn’t have these kind of problems.

Problems? What problems, might you ask?

It seems that Wednesday’s match between Necaxa and Nacional of Uruguay is going to be moved. Necaxa’s Victoria Stadium is unavailable for the Round of 16 return leg in which Nacional currently holds a 3-2 aggregate lead.

Turns out that the Governor of Aguascalientes (the state in which Necaxa plays) has decreed that Victoria Stadium will host a Shakira concert instead of the Western Hemisphere’s most important club tournament. Necaxa is currently looking for other possibilities, including returning to the Azteca in Mexico City, where they played for years until moving to Aguascalientes a few years ago.

Before you ask, yes the Governor is male. And I’m sure he’ll be there.

Hey, at least it’s not a Gloria Trevi concert.
