Chivas big wigs, Jorge Vergara and company, want to give him a 1 year contract. Yes Ramoncito is getting old. I say the pay some respect to the Chivas Captain and give him what he wants. His experience and poise is very valuable to the organization and a good influence on the Chivas youth that are coming up in the system.

Do it, Jorge, Do it!

Then recently Sergio Avila, from Chivas, responds and basically says, “look at the stats”, then you will see who is the better team. Sergio keeps on, by implying that Moreno needs to get informed and states that because he just arrived to the team, he wants to gain the approval of the fans.

Gonzalo Pineda was supposed to go to Atlante, it was in the Draft and everything. The move motivated by Efrain Flores, the Chivas Head Coach. This may end up causing problems for Gonzalo as he will have to prove himself to Flores and earn his spot on the starting lineup. Flores wanted the move for some reason.

Talk has even occurred about Gonzalo possibly being sent to Primera A. Gonzalo has stated if that happens, that he will gladly go and compete and give his all. What a guy. Passing up going to Cancun to party, err I mean play and give your best effort, he chooses Chivas love and rojiblanco passion.

Nice.

Ok, so we all know about Oswaldo getting arrested. Mexican fans laugh, while US fans throw hate. Eddie Johnson is probably glad, one of the few things he can be glad about lately, but lets stick on topic. This post is about cliques, groups, players and their friends.
Here we have two groups, the Northern Mexico/Guadalajara/Euro group and the Southern/Mexico City group.

Oswaldo and his band include Andres Guardado (Atlas), Ricardo Osorio, Jonny Magallon, Carlos Salcido and Patricio Araujo. These dudes are the scandalous ones that got Oswaldo thrown in the can. They are all friends and most have played in Guadalajara or northern Mexico. Not included is Borgetti. Hes an older guy, maybe more mature, so he goes to sleep early. So these are the party boys, listening to jaming music such as Banda el Recodo or La arrolladora Banda Limon. The stress from playing a game prevents them from sleeping so they pass their time, listening to music and causing a ruckus. In a recent podcast, the comment was made, if Chucho Ramirez were to discipline them, that they would just say, step aside Mr. Interim. We run the team!

The peaceful, that went to sleep were, Adrian Aldrete, Carlos Vela and Hector Moreno.

The Mexico City band or “Fresas” are Gerardo Torrando, Guillermo Ochoa, Cesar Villaluz, Julio Dominguez, Oscar Rojas, Fernando Arce and Gonzo Pineda (Pumas). It is said that these groups are very separate and go their own way as friends.

The loners are Sinha, Aaron Galindo and Luis Perez.

Then the couples are Cuauhtemoc and Nery Castillo. This was evident in Copa America.

Interensting no?

After some rumors of him arriving at the hotel at 5, 6 AM in the morning, his story was told by saying that his wife had accompanied him to an evening dinner, then they returned to the room of some teammates who were listening to music. Apparently they were warned twice to turn it off, the third time police arrived and Oswaldo tried to calm down the situation, but he may have got riled up and the police mace’d him and arrested him.

He was in jail for about 3 hours, and is very surprised to have this happen to him. He says that they didnt forgive nor understand his reasoning when he tried to avoid any problems when the police arrived. He admits not lowering the music when told by the Hotel staff and that it was their mistake.

I wouldnt doubt the police going a bit overboard, but we all know Oswaldo to be a bit of a spazzo. Seems he was just trying to be a leader, a captian and get his buddies out of trouble.

What would have Memo done?

Cruz Azul plays a boring but effective game vs San Luis and pulls out the pass. Santos, in a thriller, beats Monterrey in final minutes with a goal by Fernando Arce. Way to put it to Lavolpe!

So now we have a final now here is the preview:

My pic is Santos.

Cruz Azul is has been playing solid, boring, and semi-unimpressive ball. Markarian has been praised as a genius for getting the Maquina Celeste this far with his tactics even without having star players like, Chelito Delgado. They have played solid on the defense and have scored when needed. The goal keeper that has replaced veteran Oscar Perez, has done a good job. Not great because I think he has had some luck on his side.

Santos is solid on all lines. Oswaldo heading the defense, a solid Midfield, and attacking options, especially with Ludueña coming back. I am going to say that with all this firepower and the impressive show against Monterrey, Santos takes it.

Maza came on the scene in Mexico with his call up to the National Team during the Lavolpe era. Controversial, in my opinion, was his call up as he failed to impress during this time, making dumb errors at times.

I must admit however in recent times, with Chivas he as improved tremendously. He has increased his decision making and his ball control.

This announcement to Rodriguez came as a surprise, during Chivas preparation in the Liguilla tournament, Maza received the call from Chivas VP Nestor de la Torre.

In press conference along with Coach Efrain Flores, the announcement was made. Maza had a big smile on his face and full of excitement said:

“I don’t know anything about amounts, just the news has me excited. Thanks to God it happened, my dream is fulfilled, that as a professional who puts goals. I know it will be a challenge and I will join my compadre, referring to Carlos Salcido.

I’m happy for him, I hope he progresses and maybe ends up contributing to the National Team. I would like to see him make an impact on the offensive side. With his height he has scored many goals with Chivas off corner kicks and set pieces.

Clausura 2007 regular season is at an end. Now the requalification begins between: (games start this Wednesday and Thursday then the 2nd leg over the weekend.)

San Luis vs. Pachuca
Necaxa vs. Atlas

My pics are San Luis and Necaxa, only because Pachuca was just crowned CONCACAF Champs and may be tired at the end of double work, and Atlas still has Libertadores to worry about.

San Luis is a pretty good team as demonstrated by their being able to compete in the hardest group of the 3, along with Cruz Azul and Chivas.

Pachuca barely pulled out a tie vs Pumas on Sunday and only tied because of great work by Columbian goalkeeper Miguel Calero.

This is how the final group standings look. Top two teams from each group qualify directly to the liguilla tournament (bold). The next 4 teams with most points qualify to compete for entry to the liguilla (italics).

GROUP 1
Toluca: 7-6-4 (23/19, +4) 27
Jaguares: 7-5-5 (23/19, +4) 26
Pachuca: 6-4-7 (27/25, +2) 22
Puebla: 5-6-6 (28/25, +3) 21
Pumas: 5-5-7 (21/26, -5) 20
Tecos: 4-5-8 (17/29, -12) 17

GROUP 2
Santos: 8-7-2 (36/19, +17) 31
Monterrey: 6-6-5 (27/22, +5) 24
Atlas: 6-5-6 (21/24, -3) 23
Atlante: 3-8-6 (22/30, -8) 17
Veracruz: 4-5-8 (22/29, -7) 17
América: 3-2-12 (12/27, -15) 11

GROUP 3
Chivas: 9-6-2 (32/14, +18) 33
Cruz Azul: 9-4-4 (27/17, +10) 31
San Luis: 8-6-3 (24/23, +2) 30
Necaxa: 5-9-3 (18/12, +6) 24
Tigres: 5-4-8 (19/28, -9) 19
Monarcas: 5-3-9 (11/25, -14) 18

Finally, Congrats to Humberto “Chupete” Suazo for winning the goal scoring title.
